I resolve

It's that time again. Time to make empty promises and grandiose claims for the future. No, I'm not referring to writing wedding vows, but rather the annual tradition of swearing to self, family, and friend, sometimes with hand raised in a show of sincerity, of our self improvement plan for the next year and beyond. By January, probably 90% of our solemn vows go the way of the dodo, at least in years past. In humor, I've occasionally heard and sometimes repeated that this years resolution is to stop making resolutions. Yeah, that one didn't last, either.

Anyway, cynical observations and commentary aside, it is a good chance to reflect on where I am at, what I've been doing, and how I can improve in the coming year. To that end, my resolutions:

  • Get to bed by 11:00 on "school" nights
  • Limit adult beverage intake significantly during training and the competitive season
  • Follow a more structured training and nutrition regimen
  • Impose training on my time so I can spend more time with Grace and Mendy
  • Be more involved in Church
  • Be the best example I can be for Grace and other kids
  • Develop professionally in a more aggressive manner

Those are the big ones, anyway. Certainly do-able, but areas I could improve in.

Today was a great day. It started off with a rough-feeling run, but one that was necessary to prepare for PF Chang's RnR Half in just under 2 weeks. Happy to have it over (10.4-ish miles), we made last preps for Grace's 3rd birthday party. Not a huge event, with just a few of her close friends coming over to eat pizza and cake, and run around like monkeys at the zoo. Ah, sugar loading in lieu of nap time. She had a blast, and got even MORE Dora stuff. *sigh*

We are settling in to watch the Clem(p)son/Auburn game, and ring in 2008. I hope you all have a wonderful, fun, and safe New Years Eve, and many blessings in the coming year. Take care, y'all!

you had me laughing at "..writing wedding vows". If you at least make the effort it's probably more than most do with their resolutions. I need to get in on the nutrition regimen part myself.

Happy New Year :o)

Limit adult beverage intake? Hilarious! THAT, my friend, is a non-resolution but the intent is understandable. Good luck on that one, big boy!

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Are you using the FIRST plan for the MB HM? Because that looks kinda similar. They had a couple longer runs in there and I was like "What tha . . . this shiz is only 13 miles. What's the over miles for?" I know now what it's for . yada, yada, yada, something about building endurance, yada, yada :P

Oh, what an angel Grace is! Now that your resolutions are in writing, we're all going to hold you to them, you realize. Nag, nag, nag!

OK. Not really. But they DO sound like reasonable goals. Enjoy your R&R!

David,
Looking forward to seeing you at the RNR in less than 2 weeks. Sounds like Grace had a great birthday, it might have been simple pizza and cake, but she will probably remember it longer than you will.
If you keep your resolutions, you will definately be a great rolemodel for Grace.
When are you getting into town?

I can't believe we leave a week from tomorrow!

Great goals, but I agree with the girls that the adult beverage limitation will really need to wait until AFTER PFC's!

Grace is three!!! What a sweetie! I know you guys must have had a blast of a birthday party for her.

Your goals are big ones but you have the focus and drive to make it all happen.

BTW - the clips worked perfect on my new cycle shoes. They totally rocked in class and I loved the feeling of having them on indoors. Much better workout. THANKS DAVID!!!
