Last night I ran the New York Half Marathon. It almost didn't happen, since I couldn't find my race number bib since Mendy and I returned from our vacation to the beach resort. But, I decided to sneak in, get my timing chip, and got going way late. I mean I took off with the stroller crew, just behind the university rally club. Mendy decided at the last minute to go ahead and walk the course with the stroller peeps, pushing Grace.
Anyway, I was making up decent time, but the course kept going through the buildings of sponsoring businesses and landmarks. I got lost a couple of times, and the damn stroller pushers kept catching up to me. Man, that's annoying. And every mile or so there was a checkpoint, but about 4-5 miles in, they started planting little construction/engineer flags, the ones on the little metal sticks, in the ground to mark the routes and lanes (for the race crowd to stay organized), and the things kept stabbing me in the foot!
One landmark I came upon took me up to a house, and I lost the course, so I went inside. I wound up meeting a guy from my church that was also racing, and we tried to find the course through. He suggested some stairs, but when we opened the door the hall was covered in cobwebs. Clearly not the race course. Back outside, we saw where it went around the yard, and we were back on our way...
Again with the stroller pushers! Man they are fast!!
That's about where I woke up. Man, I have some really weird dreams!
