With plenty of regret and irritation over wasted entry fees, I've decided to bail out on the Va Beach RnR Half Marathon this weekend. I'm not trained up to kill it, so it would be an event of completion. That coupled with the hotel costs, travel costs, and how packed Va Beach will be on Labor Day weekend, and the fact that Mendy and G-man are medically unable to do the run, helped me lose all motivation for this one. I'm the one that didn't even want to do the stupid thing in the fist place, but was talked into it by some other folks (this is your cue to hang your heads in shame). So, instead we will hang out here, have a nice dinner out, and watch the...
U.S. Pro Cycling Championships for both Time Trial and Road Race. w00t! This is the race that qualifies the two winners to wear the Stars and Stripes jersey for the discipline they won at every event they compete in for the next year (i.e. the RR champ wears it in every road race, the TT champ in every time trial). Anyway, I'm geeking out, so I'll shut up now.
So, our office has recently moved to a location across town. This has seriously impacted my training regimen, since I'm no longer able to go home and train from there. So I've been doing a lot more running. The big difference is, the roads around the new office are HILLY! Like 358-feet-of-climbing-in-4-miles hilly. I fear I may have a return of some shin splints if I'm not careful, due to the descending stresses. Gotta watch that.
Oh, y'all go check out Ashley's blog. She had a pretty nasty bike wreck this weekend and snapped her collar bone. Apparently she scuffed up some skin and ruined a perfectly good helmet, too. She's in good spirits, but her season is wrecked. In the same light, it was a bad weekend for cyclists as Wes and Nick both had spills, though not quite as serious. Get better, folks!
