Thanks, hippies

For the last few days I've been drinking hot tea. In fact, it's displaced my normal coffee consumption, and today was the first day in several that I've had that delicious elixir of sleepy eyes. But, the tea is decent: it's a little less bold, has decent flavor, some caffeine, and antioxidants. The problem is, I'm starting to feel like one of those pretentious fruit bats that spend WAY too much time at B&N, thinking that they are really really smart because they read the latest book by a smart person. You know the type: looking down their nose at people ordering a skinny mocha, because that was so 90's. Now it's organic chai tea with a drop of raw wild honey and a stick of conflict-free cinnamon in it. Some crap like that. Hippies. And not even real hippies.

It's been a very odd week. This week was supposed to be the start of a build period toward my next big race, Festival of Flowers Oly, in June. Instead, it's become some sort of disjointed semi-taper week with a complete lack of organization...and quite frankly, motivation. I don't want to break myself down too much, because I'm going to be racing at:

After this weekend, though, it's back to some basics and an increase in distance/time for the exercise. Mendy's also ramping up her distances for upcoming races and general capability. It was great to see her swimming so much at the OWS this past weekend. It was obvious her endurance in the water was improving, since successive swim laps had her passing other swimmers who were getting fatigued. Way to go!

After the swim, I had a hankering for wings. Well, not really wings, but "chicken feathers" from Wild Wing Cafe. They are just boneless, skinless, breast strips, grilled and coated with wing sauce of your choice. The WWC out at Clemson has a great outdoor patio that just invites relaxing and having a long, lazy meal. But I had to give a shout out to my gangsta sistas, MixMasta McG, J-Mizzle, and Funkmasta J.

Grace gets to go to Grandma's Day Spa and country retreat this weekend. Usually when she's there and we call to see how she's doing, Grandma will ask if she wants to talk to us. In her sweetest little voice, and without taking her eyes from the movie she's watching (Barney, Dora, or whatever) she says, "No, thank you." At least she's polite, right?

And with Grace at Grandma's, Mendy and I get to go out and drink some old grape juice with some good friends this Friday. Not too much, mind you, and we gots to get our carbs on, too. I really want to knock this race out of the park. It's one of our team's "home" races (along with the Greenville Sprint and some YMCA races), so a strong showing is important for the sponsors and such. Big ups to Ashley on her 1/2 IM this weekend. Go get 'em, girl! And to all the homies doing the 10k on the 10th (RD'd by the most awesome Nancy), run hard and have fun!! To everyone else, have a great race or training weekend!

Peace, out.
