Jukebox hero

I'm not sure if it's come across yet, but I'm seriously guided by a strong internal jukebox. Most times it seems to be stuck on the 80's or early 90's, but sometimes tosses in some 70's. I actually play a game with Mendy (this is the clean one, actually) wherein I ask her what band it is every time a Led Zeppelin song comes on. She's caught on and knows what to say now (since I only do it for Zep songs), but she's often amazed by the variety of their music.

Anyway, when I'm out doing the do, exercising and pushing myself, I have a lot of grunting and groaning, a lot of sweat, and a lot of self-talk. I say stupid little things to encourage myself or validate my efforts. Many times, surprisingly, this puts some song in my head that would otherwise make me want to climb a water tower with a high powered rifle.

Yesterday I did a lunchtime brick, and as is customary during the recent ones, I'm pushing hard in the heat. Motoring. Just like Sister Christian. Yep, that gets locked in my nugget as soon as I tell myself, "Yeah, really motoring on now! Motoring, David!" Stick a fork in, I'm done. Anyway, it wound up being a decent brick:

Bike - 14.21 miles in 40m 07s @ 21.25 miles/hr
:54 transition
Run - 2.40 miles in 16m 45s @ 6m 59s /mile
Clear, sunny, wind 7mph, 48% humidity

Today I went to the pool (finally!) and got some laps in. I'm still trying to get comfy with my new swim style, and embed it into muscle memory. It felt okay, I suppose, and the last 500yds I progressively increased my effort. The last lap was full on sprint, and I was loving the feeling. Anyway:

50yd warm up
1st 500yd: 8:27 @ 1:41/100yd
2nd 500yd: 9:02 @ 1:49/100yd
3rd 500yd: 9:11 @ 1:50/100yd
4th 500yd: 8:35 @ 1:43/100yd
50yd warm down
2000.00 yards in 35m 18s @ 1m 46s /100 yards - avg 8:49/500yd

I wanted to run this evening, but I got tied up at the car dealership after lunch and didn't get to leave early. The plan is to do another long brick tomorrow, so hopefully that will work out with Mendy and I's collective plans.

In other news, I'm quite happy to now have a copy of a pic saved to my computer with Marcy jamming one of her digits somewhere into her sinuses. I wasn't in need of much uplifting before, but now I'm giddy! I hope she doesn't get the song Sister Christian stuck in her head now, as she motoring around in her runs and on the rower. :-)

ROFLMAO! I'm very happy to oblige you. You should see some of the gems I've saved along the years in my PB account. You just NEVER know when they'll come in handy :P

With all of this music talk I'm going to have to walk around with my MP3 player all day just to get these 80's songs out of my head and the ones I like into my head LOL Was the 80's a good decade for you or something? Please tell me you sported the 80's Bon Jovi hair!

Awesome job on the brick, but 2.40 mi run in 40mins and 7 secs?!? :P

Dude! You are totally bringing back all the old good ones :-) Are you gonna share that pic? Or are you waiting for an opportune time?

You're a demon working out in this heat!

Oohhh yes, we need to see your 80s hair!!!

Great workouts! It seems to me that it's tricky to bike and run in that type of heat. What's that you say? You feel a song coming on?

It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's Tricky...it's Tricky (Tricky) Tricky (Tricky)
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's Tricky...Tr-tr-tr-tricky (Tricky) Trrrrrrrrrrricky

Marcy, nice catch on the run time. I must have copied the bike time over instead. It's fixed now.

In the late 80's I totally rocked the mullet. I've also worn a flat top, sk8r hair, and some kind of neo nuwave crap hair style. Now I'm just Mr. Low Maintenance with the ceasar style.

Run DMC! Ahh, good times...

My sunday morning has just gone retro 80s thanks to your blog ;o)

I wish for a time when I could go anywhere near your speed, but for now I shall be content. You f-a-s-t man you! :o)

You guys are cracking me up with all this 80's music. David and I used to drive to work together many moons ago when we lived somewhere else and every morning on the way to work - there was an "guess this 80's tune", and he knew it every single morning. He's got a mind full of a LOT of useless information...

David, do I need to burn you a copy of my "Monster Ballads" two disc set?

A little Skid Row...Winger...38 Special. They all sound just up your alley.

I'll play a little name that tune with you. Who sings this? It's an easy one.
She's my cherry pie
Put a smile on your face
Ten miles wide
Looks so good
Bring a tear to your eye
Sweet cherry pie

Pfft, Warrant from about 1990 (without looking it up). Lead singer Jaime something-or-other.

Swingn' so hard,
forgot to lock the door
In walked her daddy,
stood 6 foot 4, said
"Ya ain't gonna swing with
my daughta no more"

Sometimes the hairband ballads make me weep...

Mendy, My DH has all that useless information in his head as well...unfortunately it's all sports facts and figures. Bleah. ;>) I think the four of us need to play trivial pursuit. Oh but wait you live too far away. LOL

David, thank you so much about the bike. If I get the thumbs up on the Trek I will be so happy. Everything I have read says that is the way to go for an entry level bike in that price range. Lots of happy riders...if there is another brand I should look at let me know. DH keeps wanting to look at the Cannondale's but I don't see as much about them on the tri sites and I think they are a little pricier.

Ok, three questions. They told me I need to decide between 47 and 51 inches and that if I am going to go with aero bars eventually then I need to go smaller...do you agree? Or should I strictly go on feel?

Next is your recommendation for a women's frame? She said just eyeballing me that I am a good candidate for the wsd. Do you feel that the women's frame has an advantage? Does Mendy have a men's or women's bike?

Lastly, this shop does do a free fitting but I don't know about the tune up, I will ask that. But they don't do a "machine" fitting, it's all hand measured and then how you feel on the bike. I know another shop in town does the fitting on the computer. Do you recommend that?

Thank you so much for your help!! And I haven't forgotten that you asked me about the swim technique and I am going to ask you about that sometime. :>)

ROFLMAO! The BodyGlide seems to be doing its part on the butt issues, I just never thought of using it for feet. I'll lube them up today see how it goes . . .

I'm already a spandex queen! I always feel very Jane Fonda 1980's sans leg warmers, but they work and underwear is not required for them so . . . I dig

So it's only hair bands eh? I will have to rack my brain . . .come up with something (this will be challenging because the only songs I really remember are from the 80's are NKOTB songs. What do you expect? I was in 5th grade when the 80's ended LOL)

LOL Aww David you're so good! Shamefully I will admit he was on Celebrity Fit Club, still with some semblance of a mullet with an oddly receding hairline...and I watched it.
